MODERN COASTAL apartment from the movie "The Other Woman"

The movie "The Other Woman" came out long before "coastal grandma" and "modern coastal" became such popular terms, yet I find it to be the most perfect inspiration for the MoCo style in interiors.

The story takes place in New York and surrounding areas (NYC, Connecticut and Hamptons to be exact) and later takes the viewer to the Bahamas as well. The main character Carlie played by Cameron Diaz resides in this gorgeous apartment in SoHo, which is not the most coastal out of all locations in the movie, but the interior is an amazing MoCo style example nonetheless. So if you've been looking for some inspiration and ideas on how to give your home a slightly coastal look without using all the obvious shell shaped trays and starfish trinkets, maybe you'll find some here.

I spotted a couple of famous decorative pieces, like Cooper Silver Leaf floor lamp by Arterios, which happened to be in focus almost every time somebody had to cross the room. It's so beautiful I would notice it first regardless of what was going on on the screen anyway. Arterios also makes table lamps and accent tables with these beautiful bases both in silver and in gold . The pattern resembles fish but only if you look for it, a very subtle coastal motive.

One other famed decorative object in the movie was the Jonathan Adler's Georgia porcelain vase inspired by the American artist Georgia O'Keeffe, wife and muse of renowned photographer Alfred Stieglitz. The vase was a part of the collection within which he also created a centerpiece bowl, a cookie jar and a few other pottery things. It totally makes one think about hot summer days when even the bikini feels like too much to wear or Aphrodite goddess emerging from the foam of cresting wave.

Two identical consoles by the front door are thinly shaped and look like they could be finished in heavily distressed antique silver. I love the cake stand that supports all those cool metal accents throughout the house and could easily be used to serve oysters or some other fresh catch of the day. Large asymmetrical ceramic bowl is a coastal accent which makes one think seashell edges polished by the waves but suggests it very subtly.

The pieces that I found that look pretty similar to the ones in the movie are Jeffon ceramic table lamp by Red Barrel Studio, Stone Washed linen pillows from Bed, Bath & Beyond, Vintage 1948 Waldorf Astoria Hotel Cake Stand from Weston Table, glazed ceramic decorative bowl by Patina Vie and Barajas Console table by House of Hampton.

The amount of lamps in the apartment is really impressive (yessss! to layered lightening), so I found more options in different hues of blue and different price categories that could work as substitute. They are (left to right): Mason table lamp by Robert Abbey, Braylen Ribbed Table Lamp by Kate Spade, Elegant Designs Modern Leather Table Lamp available at Amazon and Target, Pangong Table Lamp by Surya, Coto lamp by George Oliver and Formosa Table Lamp by Villa & House.

Speaking about lamps, the office of the main character played by Cameron Diaz had this amazing coastal touch too. The small lamp with the azure blue enamel shade on top of the dresser must be a vintage piece but the one on her desk looks very similar to the Contemporary Galaxy Arc Chrome Downbridge lamp previously available on Lamps Plus.  With its sailboat shape it looks like it's about to take off and float down the East River in the window.

The home bar area is represented by a marble top console table with hourglass legs, I found a similar looking one at the14th street Modern & Vintage Home store - Cyan Design Modern Black Marble and Antique Gold Hourglass Side Table. The decanters are Frances decanters by Arteriors, I was able to find those with bras stoppers at Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus in an even cooler freeform design. There's a beautiful table lamp with clear base on the windowsill, those have become a classic and can be found absolutely everywhere these days, so I'm including two Skye lamps from Birch Lane that I actually own in chrome and bras.

I've also noticed some pillar candles around the place and the blue ones look just like Blue Chamomile 3x4 Mottled Pillar Candle from Pier 1.

Besides the living room the movie takes us to Carlie's kitchen for a second, which looks very pristine but there was one element that made me think coastal - the stoneware footed fruit bowl with its domed bottom looking like its a reflection in the water.
